According to Statistics Canada, women are entering non-traditional occupational fields at an unprecedented rate in time and history.
Despite women entering non-traditional areas of work more than ever before, the number of women in the skilled trades remains critically low. Although the trades offer women the opportunity to earn high wages and take part in challenging and varied work projects, in 2006 Statistics Canada reported just 5% of all ticketed tradespeople were women, a few percentages higher than the 2% in 1991.
The trades offer women opportunities for life-long learning, skills upgrading, outdoor working, excellent health and welfare benefits, and a career they can be proud
